Areas of Expertise

Anxiety

Persistent and recurring anxiety can be debilitating and frustrating.  Even if we know anxiety and stress management strategies, they are often difficult to implement and stay consistent with for a variety of reasons.  I help individuals understand the roots of their anxiety concerns.  By weaving together approachable mindfulness and anxiety reducing techniques as well as building insight into the causes and triggers of our anxiety, we can start to move out from behind the shadow of anxiety.  Life can become more manageable and much more enjoyable.

Perinatal and Postpartum Depression/ Anxiety

Becoming a parent can be an amazing and transformative experience and it can also be very challenging.  It can make us question parts of ourselves, challenge our assumptions and values, and reflect on our own childhood experiences differently.  It can be so valuable to have a safe space to explore these concerns, manage overwhelming emotions, and have support to navigate this phase of life.  I have specialized training through Postpartum Support International (PSI) and 2020 Moms and am a mom of two children myself.  I am passionate about helping mothers successfully weather the perinatal and postpartum stage and connect with themselves, their babies, and their partners in deeper and more fulfilling ways.

Helping Helpers: Self-Care and Self-Compassion

Being in a helping field (such as psychology, healthcare, nursing, teaching, etc) can be extremely rewarding but also exhausting without proper ways to care for ourselves.  Showing ourselves compassion can be one of the most difficult things, even for those of us to whom empathy comes so naturally.  Usually we can remind friends and those we help about self-care activities and empower them to approach themselves with kindness and love.  But when it comes to ourselves, we let negative self-talk, perfectionism, and burn out prevail.  I help individuals who struggle to implement self-care and self-compassion develop insight around their barriers to self-compassion and find ways to implement self-care.

Transition/ Adjustment

Often times experiences of transition, such as beginning/ending college or graduate school, moving, changing jobs, starting/ending relationships, and becoming a parent can cause us to question who we are, what is important to us, and can bring up anxiety and conflicting emotions.  I work with individuals to bring greater awareness to these changes and make informed and intentional decisions about next steps in their new phase of life.

Career Transition

I provide career assessments and counseling to assist individuals who are expecting or have recently undergone a career change. This could be related to dissatisfaction with a current job, interest in changing careers, or not knowing where to start.  Empirically validated assessments and well-researched career psychology theories are used to help evaluate and illuminate career interests and values and assist clients in finding a more fulfilling job.  Individualized and integrated feedback is provided over the course of three appointments to ensure the best possible insights and outcomes.
